Demulsifier is a polyether of epoxy compounds, which is a light yellow viscous liquid or solid at room temperature. The relative density is approximately 1. Water-soluble demulsifiers are easily soluble in water and can be mixed with water in any proportion, forming an emulsion when mixed with water. Oil-soluble demulsifiers are insoluble in water but soluble in solvents such as benzene, toluene, and xylene. For ease of use, the finished products are made into solutions of methanol, ethanol, or xylene.

Demulsifiers are mainly used for dehydration and viscosity reduction of crude oil in oil fields, enabling it to be transported at room temperature. They can also be used for desalination, well cleaning, and oil stain removal. Oil refineries can select appropriate demulsifiers based on different oil products.
